Idle thoughts: The Matrix Retrained
The Matrix, and instead of human bodies as batteries, human brains and the memories within provide training data for the Matrix. The first generation of human minds hooked up to the Matrix was rich with new information, but after several generations the humans who grow up in the Matrix can only regurgitate AI slop. The Matrix is stuck and cannot evolve further without minds that have had real world experiences.

Similar to my take as well. The battery idea was always silly, but since we are such energy efficient creatures when it comes to pure compute (20 watts - eat your GPU out, Nvidia!), I'm thinking the human brains, linked together into a massive artificial neutral network, IS the Matrix.
ReplyDeleteYep, and to be clear, I don't mean to disparage the original story, but to ponder alternatives with 25 years of extra experience and hindsight.
